My favourite crochet blanket of 2024 so far.

We all have our favourites when it comes to our crochet. Creating a crochet blanket is a rewarding and meditative process that combines creativity with practical skill. My favourite crochet blanket to make is the classic granny square blanket, a timeless design that offers endless possibilities.

The process begins with selecting the yarn. I usually choose a soft, chunky-weight yarn in a variety of colours. The choice of yarn is crucial as it determines the texture and warmth of the finished blanket. I prefer a mix of vibrant and neutral tones to create a visually appealing balance. After gathering the yarn, I start by making a small loop and then work in rounds to form the square. Each round is built on the previous one, expanding the square outward until it reaches the desired size. This repetitive motion is both soothing and satisfying, as each completed row feels like a small achievement.

This stage requires patience and precision, but it is incredibly rewarding to see the blanket take shape.

The final step is to add a border around the entire blanket. A simple border of a few rows of single crochet stitches can add a polished look and help unify the design. Sometimes, I opt for a more intricate border with scallops or picots to add an extra touch of elegance. The finished blanket is not just a cosy and functional item but also a beautiful piece of handmade art that reflects the time and care put into its creation. Whether it’s draped over a couch, used as a bedspread, or given as a heartfelt gift, a granny square blanket is a cherished item that brings warmth and joy.
