One of my very first subscription boxes was a book themed one called Books That Matter. I was draw to this subscription as it was a female led company and their ethos was great.

“We are the UK’s leading book subscription box, bringing female-led fiction and empowerment to thousands of women across the globe. Each box contains a book by a dazzling female author, and at least 3 themed gifts by independent female creatives. Our ethos centres on representation, diversity and providing a platform for marginalised voices. We started Books That Matter in 2018 and have been on an incredible journey since, collaborating with the likes of Penguin and The Women’s Prize For Fiction.
We also have a range of gift boxes from Brave Girls Book Club, the sister brand to Books That Matter created for our younger, middle-grade feminists. The educational curriculum does little to showcase the work of female authors, as well as strong female protagonists, so we want to make a difference in how girls see themselves and their place in the world, through our fun, interactional gift boxes.”

The boxes were consistently great value and I always really enjoyed unboxing mine.
The Founder Molly was also on Dragons Den although the Dragons didn’t think it was a super idea! Totally ironic that the women Dragons were the ones literally putting her down while the men were rather supportive?
Sadly this company didn’t last and they issued a statement: “Like everyone, we have been hugely impacted by the cost-of-living crisis. We’ve been let down by multiple fulfilment partners. Our small team has faced personal challenges which has limited capacity to work.
This has all negatively affected our community, and we are sincerely sorry for the poor service over recent months. You deserve better.”
Did a poor review on the TV ruin the company or after lockdown did people lose interest?
I miss the company anyway and wish them well.
Hope your day is magical and you notice the small precious moments.
Love & healing hugs
