Sunday Soul Notes

September has been filled with so many beautiful moments, and I wanted to share some of the things that have brought me joy this past month.

1. “Small Things Like These” by Claire Keegan

I recently finished reading Small Things Like These and was completely captivated by its depth and beauty. It’s a short but powerful story that lingers with you. I’m eagerly awaiting the film adaptation, and I know Cillian Murphy will bring the story to life in a way that only he can. I have high hopes for this one!

2. A Month of Birthdays

September has been full of celebrations! Between my son Christy turning 21, my son Haydn turning 28, and my own birthday at 53, it’s been a whirlwind of cake, laughter, and love. While it wasn’t the best month for my waistline, my cholesterol levels, or my purse, it was definitely nourishing for my soul. There’s something special about gathering with loved ones to mark another year of life. And let’s be honest, I truly love birthday cakes!

3. A Holiday in Majorca

I’m so fortunate to have sons who enjoy spending time with me, even as they grow older and build their own lives. We took a beautiful holiday to Majorca, and it was pure bliss. Watching the sunset with my two youngest sons was a highlight; a moment of pure happiness that I’ll cherish forever. They have their own holidays with friends and partners, but the fact that we can share these moments together as friends makes me feel incredibly blessed.

4. Covid as a Pause

Unexpectedly, I caught Covid, and while it was physically challenging, it also gave me the gift of time to reflect. Sometimes being forced to slow down is exactly what we need, even if it doesn’t feel that way in the moment.

5. EastEnders Drama

I have to admit it; I love EastEnders. The storylines have been on point lately, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed diving into the drama. It’s one of my guilty pleasures, and I’m not ashamed to say it!

6. Netflix Binge: Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris has been my latest binge on Netflix, and I’m obsessed. It’s light, fun, and full of charm; exactly the kind of escapism I needed this month. I love everything from the fashion to the Parisian backdrop.

7. The Beauty of Autumn

The changing seasons always lift my spirits, and September marked the start of autumn, which never fails to make me happy. The crisp air, the colours of the leaves, and the feeling of cosy evenings creeping in, it’s all magic to me.

8. Wildflowers in Bloom

My wildflower pots have bloomed beautifully this month, and watching the bees and butterflies dance around them has brought me so much joy. There’s something truly special about seeing nature flourish right in your own backyard.

9. NHS Talking Therapy

I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received through NHS Talking Therapy. It’s been a vital part of my healing process, and I’m proud of myself for asking for help. Our NHS is such a blessing, and I feel fortunate to have access to such wonderful care.

10. A Visit from My Eldest Son

My eldest son, who lives in Amsterdam, came home for a visit, and it was such a special time. I always cherish the moments we have together, as they are fewer and further between these days. It’s a reminder to hold loved ones close and appreciate the time we have.

11. Marks & Spencer’s Decaf Tea Discovery

This one caught me by surprise! I accidentally discovered that Marksies’ Decaf Tea is just as lovely as Yorkshire Tea; if not better. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it might be my new favourite!

12. Autumn Evenings and Cosy Beds

There’s something so comforting about getting into bed on a chilly autumn evening. That first moment of snuggling into the covers, feeling the cold air on your face, and the warmth of the bed, it’s pure bliss. I never take for granted how lucky I am to have such a cosy place to rest.

Thank you September..

September has been a month of reflection, joy, and gratitude. It’s the little things, like sunsets with loved ones and wildflowers in bloom, that make life so beautiful. Here’s to carrying that warmth and appreciation into the months ahead!

Hope your day is magical and you notice the small precious moments.

Love & healing hugs
