Dear Future Self,
A gentle reminder when you need it,
Throughout life, you encounter three kinds of people, each serving a distinct purpose and leaving a unique imprint on your journey.
The Leaf People
Leaf people enter your life for a brief season. They may bring beauty and joy for a time, but their presence is fleeting. Like leaves, they are delicate, weak and temporary, unable to withstand the challenges of life. They come, make their mark, and then drift away.
The Branch People
Branch people are stronger than leaves. They seem reliable, but when storms arise, they can break and fall away. They provide support for a while, but they can’t always endure the weight of life’s challenges.
The Root People
Root people, however, are the ones who truly matter. These are the individuals who stand by you when life gets tough, grounding you with their steadfast presence.
Root people are the friends who check in when you’ve been unusually quiet. They’re the ones who notice when you’re not quite yourself and ask, “Fancy a chat?” or “Let’s grab a cuppa and some cake.” Their care is genuine and unconditional, not for show or recognition.
They’re the ones who rebuild bridges after a falling-out, showing up when you need them most. They understand your silences and don’t push for small talk, recognising when “I’m fine” is far from the truth.
Root people nourish you during difficult times. They remind you of your strength and growth, accepting you as you are in any season. They’re the ones who know your favourite comfort food is fish finger sandwiches and bring it to you when you’re feeling low. They text you out of the blue to say they’re thinking of you, especially on hard days.
They even know that a simple Dandelion & Burdock drink can bring you a bit of happiness, and they’ll show up with one when you need it most.
The True Measure of Root People
Root people don’t need grand gestures to show their love. It’s the small, meaningful actions that count, taking notice of the little things, offering comfort, and staying present through life’s ups and downs.
No matter the season, no matter the challenge, root people stay. They’re the ones who truly see you, care for you, and grow with you.
Surround yourself with root people, and be one, too.
Hope your day is magical and you notice the small precious moments.
Love & healing hugs
