Review of Knit Picks Yarns: CotLin, Woolen Cotton, Swish, Gloss and Dishie

One of my favourite things about being a yarn enthusiast is stumbling upon yarns I never knew I needed. Sometimes, the most delightful yarns aren’t even on my radar, until they land in my lap. That was exactly the case when Crochet.com reached out to me with a yarn I hadn’t heard of before.

It got me thinking, how often do we stick to our tried-and-true favorites when shopping for yarn online? It’s so easy to click “reorder” on the familiar and completely miss out on some truly beautiful options hiding just beyond our usual scroll.

Trying something new can be a pleasant surprise, and in this case, it absolutely was.

Knit Picks CotLin – in shade Pistachio

Fiber Content: 70% Tanguis Cotton, 30% Linen

CotLin is a cool and lightweight Tanguis cotton and summer linen blend (70% Tanguis Cotton, 30% Linen) perfect for washcloths, spa gifts, and summer knits for children and adults. Tanguis (tan-gwiss) cotton has a very soft hand, excellent absorption, and, because it is a naturally white fiber, a high affinity for dyes. The Belgian linen adds characteristic flecks and additional absorbency with very low elasticity – helping to alleviate stretching in the finished knit. Summer linen has an extended growing period which results in a longer, stronger fiber. When blended with the already strong Tanguis cotton, it makes a durable, wearable, and soft yarn. The knit fabric will get softer with each wash too.

The website description of this shade is “This yarn is the color of a double scoop of pistachio gelato. Pistachio is a mint green yarn that lets you create ice cream inspired combinations, pair with Coffee for mint chocolate chip, or combine with Cashew and Flamingo for spumoni.”

For a 50g ball it costs £6.03

Knit Picks Woolen Cotton  – in shade Gardening Gloves

Fiber Content: 50% Merino Wool, 50% Pima Cotton

The best of plant and animal fibers come together in Woolen Cotton! The coolness, strength, and shine of Pima cotton and the springiness, warmth, and bounce of Merino wool create a perfect yarn for lightweight projects that can be worn year-round. The resulting fabric is sophisticated and soft, with the feel of your favorite cotton sweater but with the lightweight and elasticity of wool. This yarn is perfect for your favorite designs calling for DK-weight yarns, particularly those with textured stitches and cables, which this yarn shows to advantage. For early winter and autumn knits, Woolen Cotton comes in beautiful jewel tones and elegant neutrals inspired by homesteads and small farms. For spring and summer, it offers bright, cheerful colors that draw on the colors of new growth and a sunshine-filled garden.

The website description of this shade is “This green was meant for gardeners! Gardening Gloves is a bright kelly green with a cool undertone.”

For a 100g ball it costs £12.47

What I made:

I decided to make myself something pretty for my barefoot and beautiful days in the sunshine.

I love wearing summer dresses, but I often find myself feeling a bit chilly, menopause will do that to you! So I wanted to create something light, beautiful, and made from natural fibres to keep things breathable and comfortable.

For this project, I used all three lovely yarns from Knit Picks WeCrochet: Dishie, Wooden Cotton, and CotLin. Each one has its own charm and crochets up beautifully.

All three of these yarns were beautiful to crochet with and the quality was outstanding. One in particular shone for me and was by far one that I would recommend. The Dishie yarn was my favourite! Don’t be put off by the name, it is one of the best 100% cotton yarns I have ever use and will go up there ranked in my top three.

The Pink Yarn was used to make baby hats as it was just so soft!
