Books & Yarn: My October Reads

Intro: Each month, I share the stories that have kept me company while I crochet, a little catalogue of the books I’ve loved (and sometimes not so loved).

There’s something so soothing about pairing words with stitches. Watching TV can feel too overstimulating, but slipping into an audiobook while my hands move through the rhythm of crochet feels like pure calm for my soul.

These posts aren’t formal reviews, just gentle reflections on what I’ve been reading or listening to, and a way to remember the stories that have weaved their way into my creative life.

So, whether you’re here for a new book recommendation or simply to share in the cosy ritual of yarn and story, welcome to Books & Yarn.

My October Reads….

I’ve always loved getting lost in a good story, especially when I’m crocheting.

There’s something about the way words and yarn intertwine that feels so grounding. The world quietens and I escape into a book, my hands find their rhythm, and I can completely switch off.

October felt like the perfect month for that, slower days, that yummy Autumn golden light, and time to reflect. So here’s my little catalogue of what I read and listened to this month. Maybe you’ll find your next read here too.

1. Prophet Song by Paul Lynch

My opinion 5/5

Haunting, powerful, and beautifully written. This story stayed with me long after I finished. It’s intense at times, but truly unforgettable.

    2. Scripted by Fearne Cotton

    My opinion 2/5

I wanted to love this one, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. Still, there were a few thoughtful reminders about authenticity and staying true to yourself.

    3. The Japanese Art of Living Seasonally: An Invitation to Celebrate Every Day by Natalie Leon

    My opinion 4/5

Gentle, calming, and inspiring. It reminded me to slow down and live in rhythm with the seasons, to find small celebrations in ordinary moments.

    4. My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella

    My opinion 3/5

Light, funny, and ideal for when you want something easy and uplifting. A perfect little comfort listen.

    5. The Women by Kristin Hannah

    ️My opinion 5/5

Completely captivating. Emotional, brave, and beautifully told, one of those stories that lingers long after the last chapter.

Books and yarn really do belong together, both are slow, mindful, and deeply soothing for the soul.
