Yes, I was PR gifted this bottle, but you know honesty is my forte. I was actually planning to treat myself to it for Christmas anyway.

Created by Bethan, a woman with a career in the wine industry who found herself pregnant and utterly fed up with alcohol-free drinks that tasted either boring, sugary, or like the consolation prize. Mother Root was her answer to the question: “Why can’t non-alcoholic drinks have depth, ceremony and pleasure?”

I resonated instantly. Years ago, I gave up alcohol for a full chapter of my life while recovering from loving a husband struggling with addiction. Alcohol became my enemy, and the “alcohol-free options” on offer were… well, let’s just say: lemonade so sweet it coated your teeth, mysterious bottled drinks that caused heartburn, hyperactive nights fuelled by diet cola, or the bleakness of fizzy water with a lonely slice of lemon.

I do drink the odd glass or two now, but it doesn’t agree with my anxiety, so most of the time I choose non-alcoholic drinks. And that is why this bottle caught my eye on social media.

My Mother Root Ritual (aka: My “Mother Root Ness Ceremony”)

1. Find your favourite glass. The one you keep “for best.” This is the moment it was waiting for. Mine is a pink tinted fishbowl one my son bought me.
   

2. Shake the bottle eight times..A tiny therapeutic release. IMPORTANT:Mother Root should look cloudy. If it’s not cloudy… shake it again.

3. Ice into the glass.. plop, plop. My ice cube rule is two..

4. Measure 25ml of Mother Root using your doser (small side).

5. Pour it slowly over the ice while taking a deep breath and whisper,

“I am enough, just the way I am.”

You could also do a little happy dance at this stage also…

6. Top with soda.

7. Add your magic:

lemon slices, rosemary, cranberries…whatever makes it feel like a vibe.
