First, let me explain what this blanket means to me. As a mum of five, I absolutely adored pushing my pram. With each pregnancy, I’d choose one special blanket, the top blanket. The beautiful one that stayed in the pram, kept baby snug, and made the whole pram look like a little cloud of love. People would peek in and comment on how gorgeous the blanket was (and the baby, of course!).
It wasn’t the blanket that got washed daily or covered in milk dribbles. It was the top layer of love, the one that made the pram feel magical.
That’s exactly what this blanket is. Luxuriously soft merino wool for warmth, breathability and comfort… and visually comforting too. Every stitch is wrapped in love, a true Wool Goddess merino magical blanket for your little one.
This Wool Goddess merino magical blanket colourway is called Whimsical Winnie.

Let’s begin….
Making a granny square blanket is pure therapy; soothing, repetitive, and absolutely zero drama. Just you, your yarn, and a little moment of peace.
If you don’t know how to make a granny square, hop onto YouTube and type “how to make a crochet granny square.” Boom. Sorted.
I get asked all the time how I make my blankets and what colours I use. Truth is, there are a million ways to make a granny square; bigger corners, smaller corners, extra chains, no chains… it’s your blanket, your rules.
If you want yours exactly like mine, amazing. If you don’t, also amazing. Just choose colours you love and crochet some magic into every stitch.
This isn’t a pattern, just a simple, easy guide with colour combos, yarn lists, links, rows, and my little Wool Goddess tweaks.
And if you make one, tag me…it genuinely makes my day.
Most importantly. My best advice would be to experiment and just have fun!

Tips & Tweeks:
- Size down crochet hook so if the yarn suggests 6mm I prefer using a 5mm or 5.5mm as I prefer tighter stitches,
- Start the blanket by chain 5 stitches.
- No chain stitch between clusters.
- Chain 2 at the corner.
- Turn after each colour.
- Sew in the ends as you go.

The usual List:

Tips & Tweeks:
I love using up every last bit of yarn in the border, no sad little scraps left behind. I just join the leftover lengths with a magic knot and blend them into a simple double-stitch border, and honestly… it looks so pretty. (See Border rows 3) to 6

Yarn Information
Why Merino Wool? The benefits of sheep’s wool have been known and proven for centuries. It is a good insulator and is breathable, transporting moisture/sweat away from your body without feeling wet (hydrophilic fibres). It is naturally antibacterial, requiring less washing than synthetic fibres, and is both natural and sustainable. In addition to the normal benefits of sheep’s wool, Merino is relatively lightweight, doesn’t itch, and is unbelievably soft, making it the perfect fibre for garment to be worn next to the skin.
Caring for Merino: One of the benefits of natural wool products such as Merino is their natural antimicrobial properties, meaning garments can be worn regularly without the need for frequent washing, as would be the case with a synthetic fibre garment. Merino fibres are breathable, meaning they wick sweat away from the body and don’t trap odours. Superwash Merinos, such as Yarnsmiths Merino Aran, are machine washable, but should not need to be washed at higher than 30 degrees, ideally on a hand wash setting. Drying garments is where we recommend taking particular care, so as not to allow the garment to stretch. Dry flat, and reshape when damp if necessary. Technically they can be tumble-dried on a cool, gentle setting, but we advise caution on this, as some tumble driers still can be quite aggressive, even on a gentle setting
