About

Hi, I’m Vanessa,

About Wool Goddess: Wool Goddess is a celebration of slow creativity, traditional crochet, and the quiet magic found in every stitch.

I’m the maker behind it all, a British crocheter with a deep love for the timeless beauty of the granny square. Entirely self-taught, my journey began with a hook, some yarn, and hours spent learning through YouTube tutorials. What started as curiosity quickly became something much deeper.

As my skills grew, I found myself drawn to granny squares again and again. There is something truly special about them, so simple, rhythmic, and steeped in tradition. Each square may be small on its own, but together they create something warm, meaningful, and lasting. That’s where my heart feels most at home.

But crochet, for me, is more than just a craft.

It is my therapy and meditation.

During a time of illness, when life felt uncertain and overwhelming, crochet became my anchor. The gentle repetition, the focus, the softness of yarn; it created space for calm, for healing, for breathing again. What began as something to pass the time became something that helped rebuild me.

My background in complementary therapy (VTCT Level 3, and a former member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists) has shaped how I understand this connection. Although I can no longer practise hands-on therapies due to my health, I still feel deeply called to support others in finding peace, comfort, and joy in their own lives.

Crochet is one of the ways I do that.

Through Wool Goddess, I share granny square blankets, crochet inspiration, and the belief that creativity can be a powerful tool for wellbeing. My pieces are often made with colourful, mismatched yarns; soft, squishy, and full of personality, because I believe imperfection is where the magic lives.

Living with chronic illness isn’t easy, and it’s a journey I continue to navigate every day. But through it all, I choose softness. I choose creativity. I choose to believe in the quiet strength within all of us.

The “Goddess” in Wool Goddess isn’t about perfection; it’s about self-worth, self-love, and remembering that even on the hardest days, you are still worthy of warmth, care, and beauty.

If you love traditional crochet, colourful yarn, and a slower, more mindful way of living, you’re in the right place.
