Back in 2024, I decided to share my monthly yarn hauls, but with a bit of a twist. The goal was never to show off by buying new yarn every month. Instead, it became part of my journey towards a more intentional, minimalist lifestyle. I’d spent far too much of my life chasing external dopamine hits, and I wanted to learn how to feel content with what I already had.
For the longest time, I justified a monthly £30 yarn purchase by telling myself, “Well, I don’t drink, smoke, or take drugs, so this is my vice.” But eventually, I realised I wanted to be more mindful about spending and constantly searching for the next thing.
So, I started cutting back on my yarn addiction and focusing on using the yarn I already owned, picking up old WIPs, and actually enjoying my stash. I was running out of space to store yarn anyway, but more importantly, I wanted to appreciate what I had rather than chase the dopamine rush of buying something new.
Hopefully, over time, I’ll build a little library of months where I didn’t buy anything at all; I simply used what was already in my stash.
And maybe, along the way, inspire someone else to do the same.
My Haul
This month, I bought nothing at all, not even a charity shop ball of yarn, so for that I am super proud. I delved deep into my stash and picked out a shawl I had forgotten about. It was a third of the way completed, so this became my mission. It was a brightly coloured linen stitch one, and it became a joy to finish.

I also found a beautiful, bagged-up, ready colour combination that I had not started, which was sad, so I decided to bring life to the granny blanket.
I purchased the colourway nearly two years ago but never got around to using the yarn, so it sat waiting in the little Wool Warehouse pearly bag…….waiting patiently.
Yarn used: Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran
Shades: Fern Green, Gilt, Magenta & Dark Grey Mix for the border
Hook: 4mm Sirdar Soft Grip

But the texture of this yarn gave me the “ick”, the granny went in the bin, and the rest of that yarn was given to my local charity shop.

Proof that if you sit on yarn for too long, you may simply fall out of love with it. This has totally put me off Sirdar Hayfield Bonus; maybe newer yarns have spoiled me with better texture.
Conclusion
Well, I am super proud of myself for a no-purchase month. It was nice to sort out the rest of the yarn stash and donate loads to the charity shop.
May has been a slow crochet month due to nerve pain in my right arm (Carpal Tunnel & Cubital Tunnel Syndrome), but on a positive note, it gave me the time to sort all my yarn out.
Hope your day is magical and you notice the small, precious moments.
Love & healing hugs
